Richard Palmer, Partner, Head of Professions and Insurance
Richard started out with the firm as a graduate trainee 25 years ago – he is now one of the equity partners at Watson Burton.
“When I first encountered Watson Burton I sensed that it was a really great place to work with a good atmosphere: that shone through on my very first day and it has been like that ever since.
I work with clients in a wide range of sectors including property, technology and energy, helping people to find solutions to problems – which is what I enjoy. You’ll certainly encounter lots of different challenges during your time here – and be rewarded for your success too. In addition, there are huge opportunities for progression at Watson Burton. From qualifying and working in the firm’s construction team, I became a partner in 1999 and I’m now one of the principal owners of the business.”
Kirsty Adamson, Solicitor, Corporate
Kirsty joined Watson Burton as a trainee in 2012 – now she’s supporting new trainees herself.
“I originally came to Watson Burton on work experience for a three month placement. I wanted to work in a commercial law firm and was attracted by the down to earth nature of Watson Burton.
The trainee scheme I then undertook with the firm incorporated my law degree at Northumbria University, so I could work at Watson Burton while studying. You’re given a lot of responsibility as a trainee from the beginning, but you get a lot of support and a supervisor. The social side of the trainee scheme is really good. All of the trainees get to know each other well and support each other. Now I’m qualified, I will be supervising and supporting the new trainees and paralegals!”
Paul Wigham, Partner, Corporate
Paul is a Partner with Watson Burton but it all started with a training contract back in 2006.
“After graduating I joined the firm as a Paralegal – and then started a training contract. I qualified as a solicitor in 2008 and became an Associate in 2011, and now advise on private equity investments and specialise in acquisitions and disposals of companies.
I gained a huge amount of experience during my time as a trainee, becoming heavily involved with client work in a meaningful way. At Watson Burton, you’ll be exposed to clients at an early stage, work in a close knit team and receive a lot more attention than you might in many other firms. We put our trust in people and if you take that responsibility and run with it there is a great chance to build your career here.”
